Stolen Bike!

Posted 28th December 2009

A Brunswick Cycling Club member has had their bike stolen from Collingwood vicinity on Monday 21st December 2009.

The bike is a Scapin Dyesys8 in white and carbon. It is a medium sized frame in steel and carbon equipped with 2010 SRAM Force 53/39 and 12/27, a PRO stem, 3T handlebars, Deda Ultra carbon seat post, San Marco Aspide Glamour saddle in black, 2 Elite carbon bidon cages, and Fulcrum Racing 3s. It also had CS600 speed and cadence sensors. It had no pedals when stolen. The white bar tape is torn on the left side and there are a few scratches on the frame as a result of a recent accident.

The owner, Nonie Carr would greatly appreciate it if any information as to its whereabouts could be brought to her attention. Please contact Brunswick Cycling Club.

President's Report 2009

Posted 10th December 2009

2009 has been an eventful year. Northern suburbs road racing has been booming with handicapper and commissaire Peter Wykes, with 'Chook' and myself lending a hand. Preston had some riders competing on the road but our succeses have been mostly on the track at DISC with several riders competing successfully.

This past year has also been noticeable for riders participating at state, national and world track titles with several medals won. Both road and track club titles were run. A new member in Cristian Stewart being our new track champ and Peter our over 50s champ, our road champ James Steinhauser won convincingly for the second year. George Goodrope winning the over 50s. Well done to all of these riders!

Track racing here at Reservoir has re-started on Wednesday nights and early indicators look promising. It is our intention to run a handicap each Wednesday night with perpetual trophies up for grabs on several nights during the summer.

Our junior carnival is planned for 28th February 2010, the day after the Melbourne Cup on Wheels. And, the Preston Mountain Classic the weekend before Queens Birthday. New courses 110km for Masters and Women and 164 km for Elite men. The Masters and Womens events will have two big climbs. Elite Men's will have three big climbs.

I wish all a Merry Christmas and happy cycling in 2010

A Big Thank You

Posted 1st December 2009

On behalf of all the riders this season, we would like to thank all the officials who worked so hard this season. Some of those who did a tremendous amount of work over the season were Peter and Rhonda Wykes, Hugh Schulz, Alf Walker, Luke McDonough, Dave Morgan, Sheryl Vicino. There were also other officials and commissaries who volunteered their time over the season and during the Three Day Tour. Without these volunteers the racing on the day would not have run as smoothly as it did.

Thank you also to all the Northern Combine (NC) members who volunteered themselves or a friend or family member to do corner duty, drive a lead or follow car or do first aid. These people ensured that the racing and riders were safe out on the course.

The NC Committee with some helpers did a mountain of work to organise the 2009 season of racing. Much of this work goes unnoticed by the majority of riders; we just turn up, race, collect our prize money and head home! The NC Committee and their helpers organise the fixture with dates and locations, race formats, the permits to use the roads, and at times sponsorship. Without them this season would not have been as fantastic as it was.

A massive thank you must go to our handicapper. His job is massive and when he attempted to resign earlier this year no-one else was available to take on his role. I suspect part of the reason behind this was his decision to head back to the track himself. Peter recently raced at the UCI World Masters Track Championships in Sydney. He raced very well and you can see him in action here: www.cyclingmasters.tv

A final thank you must go to all the riders... we trained hard and raced hard. We put up with head winds and cross winds and rejoiced in the occasional tailwind. We rode through rain and hail. We climbed hills that sometimes seemed like mountains and sprinted for the win. At times we puffed our chests and told everyone how well we rode and we told everyone else how well they rode too. Other times we regretted not doing that extra training ride through the week or maybe we regretted doing that extra hard session the day before the race! We traded yells and encouragement and shared a coffee, coke or a beer after the race. Whichever way it was for you, the camaraderie made race day enjoyable despite the pain we put our bodies through to get there and through the race.

Thank you all for making the 2009 Northern Combine Winter Road Season Great.

PCC Presents Entrants for the WMC 2009

Posted 22nd November 2009

UCI World Masters in Sydney 19th to 23rd October. PCC had a stong prevelance with five riders for medals at next months Championships. Michael Burke, Craig Whitehead, Tony McNulty, Robert Devolle, Julian Scott and Peter Wykes. Michael Burke is probably our biggest chance of winning a medal. He will riding in his pet event - the pursuit. Michael has prepared exceptionally well, not having much of a let up since his one hour record back in November last year. Tony McNulty and Craig Whitehead are both in their first year at Preston and had never raced until they joined last year. They both won medals at the Geelong Masters games back in February and race every Tuesday night at DISC with the Brunswick club and have had good results.
